Just got back from the wake. It was difficult. There were hundreds of people, unbelievable. There was a line that went all the day down the street. It was nice to see how many people came to show they cared, really.
It was hard to see my cousin, but I'm also proud of her for being so brave. She stood there all by herself, her back straight. Her face was pretty blank for most people but when she saw my mum she broke and started crying so my mum hugged her for a while. My father had a nickname for her husband so she mentioned that nickname to him and they had a moment too. It was shocking to see how old she looked suddenly. I guess that being widowed at 26 does that to you.
It was weird to see him, too. To see someone so young in a coffin. Such a big, strong guy he was too. It's just not right.
The funeral's tomorrow, the church service starts at 1. It's gonna be difficult, too. It should be. Burying a 33 year old who was so full of plans for the future, who worked so hard and who was loved by so many people, should never not be difficult.

I'm trying to knit babysocks and it's really goddamn hard. The first one I knit came out so small even a baby wouldn't fit it, so I started again on a size bigger needles, and now the cuff is fine but the gusset is waaay too big. So I frogged the gusset and am trying that again, on the size smaller needles once more *sigh* IT'S A BABY SOCK, IT SHOULDN'T TAKE A WEEK, DAMNIT.
Also I want to learn how to do intarsia, and I want to knit socks for myself, and I want to knit myself a hat, and I'm in dire need of office gloves because at my job 'summer' means 'let's set the air-conditioning to 17 degrees celcius' and I want to crochet a frog and basically I have too much hobby to fit into one day.

my car's brakes are out and i can't get it fixed til next week (there was an initial shock when i thought it would cost $850, but scott says he can do it for $300, thank god)
i killed both the van and alex's car yesterday, leaving me with no transportation.
i was laid off on monday with absolutely no advance notice. just, peace out.
so in celebration, today i watched four episodes of lost and the movie goldeneye while drinking jager and coke and typing up line notes from footloose (which took four hours, which should tell you something about how the show is going).
there's something incredibly cruelly ironic about my life right now.

So I heard somewhere that 2,5 billion people watched Michael Jackson's memorial last night. Seems like a lot. Is that actually true? Cause that's like... basically everyone on the planet who owns a tv.
Well I watched it anyway, and I cried like a baby, and when they played Paris' little speech about her father on the radio this morning I cried again. I WAS CRYING ON MY BIKE ON MY WAY TO WORK. IN THE RAIN. How's that for globally shared grief.
So my period's supposed to start like, right now, and I had a total energy drain this afternoon. So I drank two cappuccinos and a hot chocolate and now I'm kind of all over the place. MY WHOLE WORLD IS IN CAPS AND THIS IS WHY I DO NOT USUALLY DRINK SO MUCH CAFFEINATED DRINKS.

I've been bitten all to hell by mosquitoes, so now I covered myself in bug repellent stuff. I smell like a giant lemon drop. As long at it works though - I have a neat line of four bug bites on my left thigh, evenly spaced and everything.
On the up side it rained, and for the first time in what feels like weeks I don't feel like I'm going to suffocate in my sleep \^_^/
